Throne of Thunder Raid Run Overview
Throne of Thunder is the Tier 15 raid of Mists of Pandaria Classic, sitting on the Isle of Thunder off the northern coast of Pandaria. Twelve bosses across four wings, 25-player format, two difficulties (Normal and Heroic), one weekly lockout per character. Our crew at BuyTheWin clears the place from Jin'rokh's opening pull through to Lei Shen on top of the pyramid, and Heroic groups also push past Lei Shen to face Ra-den, the secret encounter that only opens for raids that finish the main twelve on Heroic.
The loot pool is built around two item-level brackets. Normal drops sit at 522, Heroic at 535, and either tier can roll Thunderforged for an extra six points (528 and 542 respectively). At least five guaranteed pieces land in your bags per full clear, and the lockout caps tradable drops at the standard reset window. The Heroic full clear also rewards the Storm's End title, which sticks with the character once the kill credit registers. That title is the one cosmetic flag tied to clearing this raid the hard way, and it stops appearing in the loot table once the next tier opens.
Wrathion's Legendary Cloak chain runs straight through Throne of Thunder too. Sigils that drop here feed the questline, so even raiders who already own most of the Tier 15 item slots have a reason to keep coming back for the weekly clear. If your goal is the cloak, this is the raid where the bulk of the sigil farm happens.
Wings, Bosses, and the Thunder King
The 12-boss roster splits across four wings. Last Stand of the Zandalari opens with Jin'rokh the Breaker (the lightning-pool fight), Horridon (multi-door add waves), and Council of Elders (a four-king encounter). Forgotten Depths follows: Tortos and his bats, Megaera with her three rotating heads, then Ji-Kun on the egg platforms. Halls of Flesh-Shaping holds Durumu the Forgotten (the maze fight), Primordius (mutation tank-and-spank), and Dark Animus (golem add management). Pinnacle of Storms caps the run with Iron Qon, the Twin Consorts, and Lei Shen himself, the Thunder King and central villain of the patch. On Heroic, clearing Lei Shen opens the door to Ra-den, the bonus thirteenth encounter, and the only fight in the raid locked behind difficulty.
The drop pool covers every armor type and most weapon slots. Guaranteed pieces and notable trinkets show up across the wings, so a single full clear typically lands gear for two to three slots without needing reruns. Two mounts are also in play here:
| Item Name | Type |
| Do-tharak, the Swordbreaker | 1H Sword |
| Shan-Dun, Breaker of Hope | Polearm |
| Uroe, Harbinger of Terror | 2H Axe |
| Hydra-Scale Bloodcloak | Cloak |
| Deeproot Treads | Feet |
| Fissure-Split Shoulderwraps | Shoulders |
| Clutch of Ji-Kun | Mount |
| Spawn of Horridon | Mount |
Spawn of Horridon comes off the council fight with low odds, and Clutch of Ji-Kun drops from the egg-phase boss the same way. Both re-roll into the table every reset, so back-to-back lockouts are the realistic farm path if a mount is your goal.
Picking Difficulty, Loot, and Method
Two difficulties cover the spread. Normal lands you at 522 ilvl gear with a chance at Thunderforged 528 pieces. Heroic produces 535 base, 542 Thunderforged, plus access to Ra-den and the Storm's End title once Lei Shen drops. If the title and the secret encounter are the goal, Heroic is the version to book; if you only need the gear floor for the Tier 15 set, Normal is the cheaper path.
Loot models split into two routes. Guaranteed loot locks in a fixed item count regardless of who else rolls in the raid (you pick the number; five is the floor on the standard package). Full Loot Priority hands you every armor piece, weapon, and trinket eligible for your spec across the lockout. The combination of difficulty plus loot model is the main lever on price, so a Normal run with five guaranteed pieces sits at one tier, and a Heroic Full Loot Priority run with Ra-den included sits at another.
Method is the final lever. Piloted hands the character to one of our raid leaders for the run window: you stay logged out, the kills land, the loot drops, the title and items return to your character. Self-Play keeps you in the seat on every realm, joining the booster group while our team carries the bulk of the workload. If you also need the rest of the Mists of Pandaria raid track, our MoP Siege of Orgrimmar boost handles the next tier, and the MoP Legendary Cloak service finishes the questline that runs alongside this raid.
